Throughout 2018, we will be holding our 2nd annual segment challenge. Typically each segment will last for approximately a month, however to mix it up a little bit, we may throw in some additional segments to be run over shorter periods of time. For example we may add segments which are run on 1 day only or over a weekend. We may add an off-road segment, a Zwift segment, a Liège–Bastogne–Liège or the Isle of Wight segment.
You have asked us about age or weight related handicaps on segments and unfortunately this isn’t something that is currently possible to monitor, so we feel adding additional shorter segments will be a way to mix up the tables.
Whoever records the fastest time (male and female) over the segment is the stage winner. Leaderboards are created for the General Classification (GC), King and Queen of the Mountain (KOM/QOM), and Sprint competitions.
The Segment Challenge is open to all FULLY PAID UP HWBCC members, who have a personal Strava account. We reserve the right to remove the times of non-members on the segment challenge leaderboard. Record a time on the current segment, and upload to Strava within the challenge period. Only your best time counts (Although you can try as many times as you like). Points will be awarded to the top 10 rider each month. At the end of each segment, the segment champions will be announced (male and female). At the end of the year, the overall champions will be determined by whoever accumulates the most points by the end of the challenge. The Segment Challenge is about having fun and challenging yourselves. The Highway Code and rules of the road must be adhere to at all times. If you are deemed to put either yourself or somebody else at risk, we will delete the entire challenge. Points are awarded as follows
GC: 15/12/10/8/6/5/4/3/2/1 Sprint: Flat 10/8/6/4/2, Rolling 5/4/3/2/1 KOM: Mountain 10/8/6/4/2, Rolling 5/4/3/2/1
Activities included in the challenge are based on each athlete's local time zone.
Activity privacy settings must be marked Everyone to count towards the challenge.
All activities logged during the challenge period must be uploaded to Strava no later than three days after a stage ends.
This challenge is organised by Hatch Warren Beggarwood Cycling Club and only members may join.
